Mark and Ricky do some reconnaissance on the new route.
Tour de Gap co-directors Mark Spurlock (left) and Bill Minter (camera) visited with Alex Moore of Moore Property Group recently about the Sunday activities at this year’s ride. Started in 2018 to offer something extra to complement Saturday’s rides, the Steamboat Challenge this year has a new 20K route around Steamboat Mountain. A sponsored continental breakfast at Main Street Station (Litel St.-FM613 at Main St., on the south end of Buffalo Gap) will be before the Time Trial and an awards ceremony will follow. All activities will be outside this year.
Here is a PDF file that has the details about the new route for the Steamboat Challenge Individual Time Trial. Includes each segment’s distance and elevation change. Join us as a rider or a spectator at Main Street Station on the south end of Buffalo Gap (FM 613 and Litel St.) for a complimentary brunch and the awards ceremony. This year the finish line will be at Main Street Station. Not registered? You can add it to your registration at BikeReg.
A note about watching spots for your fans: Best place for spectators to cheer on your favorite rider will probably be near the climb on Belle Plains Road (CR 359, off Buffalo Gap Rd FM 89). After the riders pass you can return to Main Street Station by way of Buffalo Gap. We are trying to avoid a lot of return car traffic that would conflict with the riders on CR 150, the segment called “Nuisance.”
